We decided to start at the bottom and work our way up. The basement was full of bricks. Before I knew the facility was a power plant, I theorized it might have been a brick factory. The bricks were "fire-bricks", used to line the furnaces and smokestacks. According to the previously linked developer's website, the plant had more than 1,500,000 of these.

Here is one face of the furnaces. Inside are more bricks and a lot of junk:


There is a lot of metal down there, and it is all very corroded. The pictures bear an eery similarity to underwater pictures of shipwrecks like the Titanic. A fortune in obsolete, forgotten machinery rusts away into nothing.
We found a pair of metal shears missing half the handle, and carried it with us for awhile.
When we finished the basement, the sun had gone completely down. Even we weren't crazy enough to attempt the main rooms with no light. They would have to wait until...
